Two student representatives on the advisory council of the interim government, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan and Mahfuz Alam, have resigned. They submitted their resignations after a meeting with chief advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday evening.

The Chief Advisor’s office confirmed this information to BBC Bangla. Sources said that the Chief Advisor’s press wing has called a press conference regarding the resignation of these two advisors.

A briefing on this issue will be held today (December 10) at 6:15 pm.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5 last year, an interim government was formed on August 8 under the leadership of Professor Muhammad Yunus. Three students who led the July mass uprising were given seats in this government.

On the other hand, Mahfuz Alam initially became the special assistant to the chief advisor with the rank of advisor. Later, in the redistribution of advisors’ responsibilities, Asif Mahmud was given the responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as the Ministry of Local Government.

Nahid Islam resigned from the advisory council and took charge of the new political party NCP. Later, Mahfuz Alam was given the responsibility of the Information Ministry.

Ever since the possible time of the schedule announcement was announced, there have been discussions that Local Government Ministry Advisor Asif Mahmud and Information and Broadcasting Advisor Mahfuz Alam will announce their resignations soon.

In an emergency press conference called this afternoon, Asif Mahmud said he would run for office, but did not clarify where or for which party he would run.

When asked by reporters about the resignation, Asif Mahmud said that the Chief Advisor’s press wing will inform about it.
