Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday said the government has deployed army personnel in six districts based on intelligence reports indicating possible activities by the banned Awami League and its affiliated groups.
Speaking to reporters outside his office at the Secretariat, the minister said the country’s law and order situation remains stable, but authorities have taken precautionary measures to prevent any attempt to create unrest.
“The law and order situation has not deteriorated. In fact, it is better than before. However, we must remain vigilant at all times,” he said.
According to the minister, intelligence agencies have observed activities by members of the banned Awami League in several districts, including attempts to organize rallies and processions.
“We felt there could be efforts to create instability. Therefore, all law enforcement agencies have been instructed to remain on high alert,” he said.
The Home Minister said army personnel have been deployed under the “In Aid to Civil Power” provision from June 22 to June 30 to assist civil authorities in maintaining public order and security.
He emphasized that the deployment does not indicate any lack of confidence in the police force.
“Whenever necessary, we bring in other security agencies, including the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Army, to support law enforcement operations,” he added.
