
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a helper named Nazim Uddin (45) for allegedly harassing a woman with her clothes on a moving bus in the capital’s Mohammadpur. The helper worked on a Ramzan Paribahan bus.
On Friday (October 31), RAB-4 Operations Officer Major Mohammad Abrar Faisal Sadi told the media that a team of RAB-4 arrested Nazim Uddin from the Mohammadpur bus stand area yesterday (October 30). He was later handed over to the police.
The matter came to the attention of RAB after a video of the incident of harassment of a woman went viral on social media. In the video, Nazim Uddin is seen beating a woman.
Mohammadpur Police Station OC Kazi Rafiq said that Nazim Uddin was produced in court and a seven-day remand was sought.
The incident is believed to have taken place on October 29. A video circulating on social media shows the helper getting into an argument with a woman on the bus and raising his hand at her. No other passengers were seen to intervene at the time.
The woman who was harassed is identified as Sidratul Muntaha Rahman Tenen. She confirmed her identity in a video message on Facebook on Friday (October 31). She said, “I am making the video so that everyone can know if something happens to me.” Sidratul Muntaha also said that the administration was trying to contact her, and she spoke to them.
