Bangladesh’s semi-final dream ends after losing to Sri Lanka

Bangladesh needed 9 runs in the last over to win. Rabeya was trapped leg before four off the first ball of Chamari Atapattu. Nahida Akhtar was run out on the next ball while trying to take a run. Jyoti caught it near the boundary on the third ball. Atapattu also trapped Marufa leg before four off the fourth ball. As a result, the equation stood at 9 runs off the last two balls, but Bangladesh could only score one run. Bangladesh’s dream of the semi-finals was over with this loss of 7 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss in Mumbai, Sri Lanka scored 202 runs in 48 overs, losing all their wickets. Perera top-scored with 85 runs for the team. Swarna Akhtar took 3 wickets for 27 runs for Bangladesh. In reply, Bangladesh could not score more than 195 runs in 50 overs, losing 9 wickets.

Bangladesh did not get off to a good start in the chase. Rubaiya Haider Jhilik returned to the dressing room in the second over of the innings. Despite playing 5 balls, she could not open the score. Another opener Farzana Haque played well but could not take advantage. On the contrary, she played several dot balls. She was dismissed for 7 runs off 35 balls.

Subhana Mustario also came back quickly after being dropped for four. She scored 8 runs off 13 balls. Bangladesh lost 3 wickets for 44 runs. Then Nigar Sultana Jyoti and Sharmin Akhter Supta took charge of the team. Supta left the field injured after scoring 64 runs.

After that, Jyoti was fighting well with Swarna. However, when Swarna returned after 19 runs, Bangladesh’s batting order collapsed. Neither Ritu nor Rabeya could take advantage. Jyoti scored 77 runs before being dismissed in the last over.

Marufa has always been a fearsome batsman with the new ball. He has proven that in the current World Cup. Today, this pacer gave the team a breakthrough with the first ball of the innings. His pace and spin got Bhishmi Gunaratne trapped at leg-before.

Atapattu and Perera overcame the initial shock. Together, they added 72 runs for the second wicket. The Sri Lankan captain laid a solid foundation for the team by playing an innings of 46 runs off 43 balls.

Perera batted brilliantly at that position. However, while this batsman scored 85 runs at one end, no one could provide him with any support at the other end. After Perera was dismissed, their batting order collapsed. The team somehow managed to reach 200 and was all out.

For Bangladesh, Swarna was the best bowler of the innings, taking 3 wickets for 27 runs. Rabeya Khan also took 2 wickets for 39 runs.
