The July charter will not include any issue called ‘Note of Dissent’, said Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) convener Md. Nahid Islam. He said that the people will decide on the implementation of whatever has been agreed upon in the charter.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the University Teachers Forum (UTF) at Bangla Academy on Friday morning, November 7, he said, “There will be no note of dissent in the July Charter. Whatever the people say will be implemented. We hope that we will be able to move towards elections very soon through the legal framework of the July Charter.”
He also emphasized the need for participation of people from different walks of life, including youth, teachers, women, minorities, and people from different walks of life, in the next parliament and reform council. He said, “We want all classes to be represented in the new parliament and reform council so that the spirit of the July Charter can be implemented.”
Nahid Islam, in favor of implementing the administrative outline of the July Charter under the leadership of Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said, “We have said that the order for the July Charter should be given by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. In the next election, all the partners of the mass uprising should be in the parliament. That parliament will form the Reform Council and draft the new constitution.”
Recalling the contribution of teachers, the NCP convener said, “The role of teachers was important in the July Uprising. However, for the last 16 years, teachers have been promoted on the basis of party affiliation. The fascist structure still exists. It is not possible to eradicate fascism without changing the thinking of individuals and society.”
He further said, “To eliminate unemployment, we must bring reforms in the education sector. If the education system cannot be overhauled, radical change in the state is not possible. The previous government promised to change the education system, but they failed. Even if they fail, we will continue the fight.”
