World football’s governing body FIFA today updated its men’s football rankings. Bangladesh has improved one place in this. Hamza and Jamal have moved up from 184th to 183rd position.
FIFA released the rankings on September 18 after the September window. Bangladesh remained unchanged at 184th position. Hamza and Jamal have moved up a step in the updated rankings released today after a month. Bangladesh played two home and away matches against Hong Kong in the October FIFA window for the Asian Cup qualifiers.
Despite losing 3-4 goals at home, the red-green team drew 1-1 in the away match. Hong Kong is 38 places ahead of Bangladesh in the rankings. Bangladesh’s points have increased due to the draw on their soil. This has had a positive impact on the rankings as well.
FIFA’s last window in 2025 is in November. Bangladesh will play against India in Dhaka on November 18. Before that match, BFF is trying to play another friendly match at home. If Bangladesh can win those two matches, its ranking will increase.
Meanwhile, Spain has retained its top spot in the world rankings. In addition, current world champion Argentina has improved one place and former world champion France has dropped one place to second and third respectively. Japan is at the highest position in Asia (19). India has dropped two places to 136th. Despite getting four points against Bangladesh, Hong Kong has dropped two places to 146th. Singapore, another team in Bangladesh’s group in the Asian Cup qualifiers, has moved up three places to 155th after beating India.
