Students of BUET protested at midnight demanding the arrest of Shanto Roy, a third-year student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) department, on charges of sexual harassment and rape. Later, the BUET administration temporarily expelled Shanto Roy in response to the students’ demands.

This information was announced in a notification issued by the BUET Student Welfare Department at 12:30 am on Tuesday (October 21).

Professor AKM Masud said that the university administration will meet with the vice-chancellor on Wednesday (October 22) to take a final decision on the accused student. A case will be filed against Shant by the university administration.

Earlier, students protested at BUET’s Ahsanullah Hall demanding the arrest of Mr. Shanto for making derogatory comments about Muslim women on the social media Reddit and for rape. Later, the situation calmed down when the police arrived and took up position on the campus.
