
Former Bangladesh women’s cricket team selector and team manager Manjurul Islam Manjur has been accused of sexual harassment by former captain Jahanara Alam. Jahanara alleged that Manjurul Islam made a bad proposal to her in a recent interview. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formed an investigation committee in the wake of this allegation.
The BCB announced this information in a press release on Thursday night. The committee will submit its final investigation report within the next 15 working days.
The BCB statement said, “The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expressed deep concern over the media reports regarding the allegations made by a former member of the national women’s cricket team. The allegations mention misconduct by some individuals associated with the team. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the BCB has decided to form a committee to investigate the incident in detail. The committee will submit its investigation report and recommendations within 15 working days.”
In a statement to the media, the BCB further said, “The BCB is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful and professional environment for all its players and officials. The board takes such allegations with the utmost seriousness and will take appropriate action based on the results of the investigation. Until the investigation process is completed, the BCB urges all concerned, especially the media, to refrain from commenting, reporting or discussing the matter based on speculation, so as not to affect the investigation process.”
Earlier, Jahanara had said in that interview, ‘He (Manjurul Islam) came to me one day, put his hand on my shoulder and asked, how long is your period? When your period is over, tell me, you have to look after me too. When your period is over, come when I call you.’
