The Bangladesh national football team was scheduled to play a friendly match against Afghanistan at home before facing India in the Asian Cup qualifiers. The match was ultimately cancelled. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Competition Committee Chairman Golam Ghaus told Prothom Alo today.
Bangladesh will play India in their fifth match of the Asian Cup qualifiers on November 18 at the National Stadium in Dhaka. As part of the preparation for that match, Bangladesh wanted to play a match with Afghanistan in Dhaka on November 13. Afghanistan had also finalized the dates of the tour to BFF, but they suddenly changed their decision.
Afghanistan was scheduled to play against Myanmar in an Asian Cup qualifier at the Kings Arena in Dhaka on the same day as the Bangladesh-India match. But Myanmar refused to tour Bangladesh. That is why Afghanistan has also canceled the match with Bangladesh.
In this regard, Golam Ghaus said, “Afghanistan has said they will not come to play in Bangladesh. Because Myanmar does not want to come to Bangladesh. Efforts are being made to find a different opponent for the friendly match on November 13. We have talked to a few countries and will be able to inform them in a day or two.”
However, a BFF source said that Nepal is also on the list of countries that have sent invitations. They have also verbally agreed to play matches in Bangladesh.
