Ansar-VDP initiates reforms in Unnayan Bank to establish transparency and good governance

Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank has recently undertaken major reforms to ensure transparency and accountability. Through its own special audit activities, the bank has uncovered initial information about irregularities worth about Tk 11 crore in its Noakhali and Senbagh branches between 2020 and 2025. Two special audit teams have already been formed, which are working on a full investigation into the incident.

Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, Director General of the force and Chairman of Ansar-VDP Development Bank, gave this information at a view-exchange meeting organized at the headquarters of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force on Monday (October 20).

He said, “Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank was established to ensure financial inclusion of Trinamool Ansar members. But in the past, the bank has failed to achieve the desired goals. We firmly believe that it is possible to take the bank to new heights through good governance, transparency and technology-based management.”

The Director General said, “In the past, there were some deficiencies in digital monitoring, audit supervision and loan disbursement in bank management. Currently, we are identifying these deficiencies and taking the bank towards complete digital transformation by introducing the Core Banking System (CBS). As a result, no individual or group will be able to take advantage of the bank unethically in the future.”

He said, “In the promotion of officials, utmost importance is now being given to the contribution of honesty, efficiency and financial transparency. The administrative and financial structure of the bank is being further strengthened in accordance with the policies of Bangladesh Bank.”

Major General Sajjad Mahmud said, “By suppressing the wicked and nurturing the righteous, Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank will be developed into a good governance-based, public-trusted financial institution. Positive changes have already been seen in the management as a result of the addition of experienced officers of the force to the board of directors.”

According to bank sources, the special audit team will reveal the full picture of irregularities after the investigation and legal action will be taken against those responsible. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the concerned authorities have already been informed so that the accused can be brought under legal process quickly.

Established in 1996, Ansar-VDP Unnayan Bank is currently playing a significant role in financial inclusion and microfinance activities of Ansar and VDP members of the country through 259 branches. The bank is now moving forward as a modern and efficient financial institution, operating on the principles of transparency, accountability and good governance.

The meeting was attended by Ansar-VDP Development Bank Managing Director Mr. Mir Mofazzal Hossain and senior officials of the force and the bank.
