
Six passengers, including the driver of a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, were killed when a truck hit them in Kabirhat Upazila of Noakhali.
The accident occurred in front of Islamia Alia Madrasa on the Kabirhat-Basurhat road in the upazila at 2:30 pm on Tuesday (October 4).
The deceased were identified as autorickshaw driver Shah Alam Khokon, Noakhali College student Tanim Hasan, and students Israt Jahan, Bibi Kulsum, Jannat and Sultan Ahmed Sumon.
Local resident Tipu Sultan told that a truck hit the auto-rickshaw on its way from Maijdi in Noakhali to Basurhat. The car is on two roads. Fire service and police members are at the scene.
Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mia told Dhaka Post that three people were killed on the spot. One died at Kabirhat Upazila Health Complex and two died after being taken to Maijdi Hospital. In total, six people have been killed. Two vehicles have been brought to the police station. The truck driver could not be arrested as he fled after the incident. Legal action is being taken in the incident.
