US President Donald Trump has said that Venezuela will remain under the control of the United States until a safe, fair and orderly transfer of power takes place in the country.
US troops detained President Nicolas Maduro and his wife on Saturday. Trump held a press conference at 11pm local time in Florida.
There, he said, their troops arrested Maduro very quickly and furiously. He said that Venezuelan troops were waiting for them at the time, but they did not suffer any losses.
Trump said, “No other country in the world could have achieved what the United States did yesterday. In a very short period of time, the Venezuelan military was completely paralyzed. Our military and law enforcement, working together, very successfully captured Maduro in the dead of night. It was pitch black because we had the special ability to turn off almost all the lights in Caracas.”
Trump has threatened to launch a second major attack on Venezuela if necessary, but with Maduro now in custody and the first strike successful, there is no chance of another attack.
Trump also said that Maduro will be brought to justice in the United States.
