Foreign Affairs Adviser Towhid Hossain on Thursday said the interim government will issue travel passes within a day if BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman wants to come to the country.
He said this while addressing a session on ‘Foreign Policy of Bangladesh: Defining a Relevant Role in a Changing World’ organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents’ Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) at the Press Club on Sunday (November 29).
He said that the government does not know what status Tarique Rahman is in in London. He said that if he wants to return to the country, another country can stop him, which is unusual.
The foreign adviser said it is taking time for India to adapt to the changes that took place in Bangladesh after the July mass uprising. Hopefully, working relations between the two countries will be normalized soon.
He also said that Delhi did not give any official information about the presence of former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in India. There has been no formal discussion about his return.
On the issue of Sheikh Hasina, the foreign adviser said Dhaka-Delhi relations will not be stalled even if India does not return her. Bangladesh hopes to get him back as soon as possible.
