Retail chain supershop ‘Shwapno’ impresses customers with flashy advertisements at different times. However, there is a different story behind it. The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has recently fined supershop ‘Shwapno’ Tk 30,000 for cheating customers in Rangpur city through such flashy and misleading advertisements.
The fine was imposed after conducting a drive at a branch in the city on Monday under the leadership of Assistant Director of the Department’s Rangpur District Office, Md. Al Mamun.
Locals applauded the operation and said that such surveillance needs to be strengthened in the interest of consumers. Such fraud by a big super store like Dream is disappointing.
They said that such a reputable super shop like Sapna offers to sell low-quality products. Sapna’s offers, prices, and fish and meat raw materials are of very low quality and in many cases unusable.
During the operation, evidence was found that advertisements of various products at Shwapno Supershop were misleading consumers. Later, a fine of Tk 30,000 was levied under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009.
The department official said that such campaigns will continue to ensure that general consumers are not cheated, and to protect the interests of consumers. Legal action will be taken against the institutions involved in fraudulent activities.
When asked about the fine imposed on Shwapno for fraud, Swapna Media and Public Relations Manager Md. Kamruzzaman Milu said, “This is a misinformation. You should call the MD and talk to him.”
He also said, “Monday’s matter ends on Monday. Why did you call today about this matter?” Later, he hung up, pretending to be busy.
When I called Sabbir Hasan Nasir, the managing director (MD) of chain supershop Shwapno, to discuss this issue, he hung up.
