Secondary teachers’ strike postponed, annual exams from Wednesday

The ongoing strike of government secondary teachers has been temporarily suspended. Considering the interests of students and academic pressure, the Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers Association (BGSTA) has announced this decision. As a result, after a long period of uncertainty, annual examinations will be held across the country from tomorrow as per the regular schedule.

A press release issued on Tuesday (December 2) night said that it is one of their responsibilities to protect the future of students and bring their educational life back to normal. Therefore, everyone concerned has been called upon to cooperate in conducting annual examinations smoothly in schools across the country from tomorrow, Wednesday (December 3).

The press release further said that effective initiatives are being sought from the concerned authorities to move the just demands of the association towards a speedy resolution. So that educational activities are not disrupted in any way in the future. The organization’s next decision will be announced soon through discussions.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers Association announced a ‘full-day strike’ program from December 1 to demand four points, including entry-level salaries at grade 9. As part of their program, teachers have also abstained from the ongoing annual examinations, SSC selection examinations and grade evaluation.
