Massive fire breaks out at Shahjalal’s Cargo Village, 36 fire units bring it under control

A massive fire broke out at the cargo village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. A total of 36 units of the fire service are working to control the fire.

Tahla Bin Jasim, an officer of the media cell at the Fire Service headquarters, gave this information at around 5 pm on Saturday (October 18).

He said, “36 units of the fire service are working to control the fire at the airport’s cargo village. Initially, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not known. We have not received any reports of any casualties in the fire.”

He also said that upon receiving the information at 2:34 pm, nine units of the fire service initially reached the spot and worked to control the fire. Later, more units were added, bringing the total number of units working to 36 now.

In addition, two fire units of the Bangladesh Air Force, the Navy and the Army are working to control the fire. In addition, two platoon members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have joined the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, the airport authorities are taking alternative measures to ensure that airport operations are not disrupted, an airport official said. He said the fire was mainly in the cargo village area and did not affect the passenger terminal. However, flight operations have been temporarily suspended. In addition, several flights have been diverted to Chittagong, Sylhet and Kolkata.
