
Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Baharul Alam has submitted his resignation to the Home Secretary. However, it is learnt that the resignation letter has not yet reached the Home Ministry.
The news was reported to the media on Sunday (February 15) citing senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Police Headquarters.
According to the news, citing responsible sources, the Home Secretary went to the IGP’s office on Sunday around 3 pm due to an urgent need. He submitted his resignation letter to the secretary there. Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry, Nasimul Gani, received the letter and instructed for further process.
The source also said that the Home Secretary has given verbal instructions to the IGP to remain in office until the swearing-in of the members of parliament. However, if the new government wants, the IGP’s contract can be cancelled again tomorrow. The entire process now depends on the situation.
Citing sources from the police headquarters, media reports said that the top police officer worked till Sunday evening. The IGP has not yet commented on the resignation letter.
Earlier, a security preparation and regular meeting was held at 11 am on the occasion of International Mother Language Day on February 21. The police chief was present at the meeting.
