This information was provided by the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing on Sunday (February 8).
The message said that as per the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in Geneva sent a formal Note Verbale to the OHCHR on 6 February 2026. The note sought the cooperation of the UN Human Rights Office to provide necessary technical and institutional support in the investigation of the killings.
A message sent from the Bangladesh Mission in Geneva said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be informed as soon as any response is received from the OHCHR.
The Press Wing said that the Bangladesh government reiterates that it is determined to identify those responsible for the murder of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi and bring them to justice, and that the highest level of transparency and accountability will be ensured in this regard by following international human rights standards.
Osman Hadi had announced to run as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency in the 13th parliamentary election. On December 12, the day after the schedule, he was attacked while going to Bijoynagar area for a public meeting. Hadi, who was in a moving rickshaw, was shot by an assailant sitting on the back of a moving motorcycle. The seriously injured Hadi was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for surgery and admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka that night. Two days later, Hadi was taken to Singapore by air ambulance. After undergoing treatment there, Hadi’s death was reported on December 18.
After Hadi was shot, Abdullah Al Jaber, a member secretary of the Inqilab Manch, filed a case of attempt to murder on December 14. Later, section 302 of murder was added to the case. After that, the police took over the investigation of the case and the DB police were given the responsibility of investigating the case.
After the investigation, the detective police filed a chargesheet in the Hadi murder case on January 6, accusing 17 people, including former ward councilor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and former Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud. However, the failure to arrest the main accused, including the main accused Faisal Karim, angered the workers and family members of the Inqilab Mancha. They sought the intervention of the United Nations in the murder. The government approached the United Nations in response to that demand.
