Government provides account of Consensus Commission’s expenditure

The interim government has said that some quarters are engaged in organized propaganda regarding the expenses of the National Consensus Commission. The commission has informed that the total expenses of the commission were 1 crore 71 lakh taka, of which only 4.5 lakh taka was spent on the hospitality sector.

The Chief Advisor’s Facebook post on Thursday (November 6) night said that recently, some quarters are claiming that the commission has spent 83 crore taka on entertainment. This is completely baseless and false, and part of planned propaganda.

The post also said that the total budget of the commission between February 15, 2025 and the 2025-26 fiscal year was 72,331,026 taka. Of this, 17,131,126 taka has been spent till October 31, 2025, which is only 23.46 percent of the total allocation.

The commission said that a large portion of the hospitality sector was for participants in discussions, meetings, and press conferences with political parties.

According to the calculations given in the post, in the first phase, the expenditure on 44 meetings from March 20 to May 19, 2025 was Tk 4 lakh 91 thousand. In the second phase, the expenditure on 23 meetings at the Foreign Service Academy was Tk 28 lakh 83 thousand 100. In the third phase, the expenditure on 7 meetings was Tk 7 lakh 8 thousand 600.

In addition, a total of several lakhs of taka was spent on other meetings and events, expert meetings, and guest entertainment, where the experts did not receive any honorarium.

The Commission has said that the claim of 83 crore taka is completely false and a planned attempt to tarnish the image of the Commission. The Commission hopes that the circles behind this propaganda with malicious intent will quickly admit their mistake and apologize.
