
From now on, there will be no need to upload any documents or papers to file income tax returns online. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has said that the return can be filed by simply providing the required information. As a result, it has now become easier for taxpayers to file returns online.
Online filing of returns has been made mandatory for all taxpayers, with some exceptions, from the current fiscal year. The deadline for submitting returns is from July 1 to November 30. According to NBR sources, 850,000 taxpayers have submitted their returns online as of last week.
No paper, just information.
Taxpayers must keep in their own custody the documents or papers on which the information on income, expenses, assets and liabilities is based. Tax officials may have to submit these documents as evidence if requested during an audit.
Paper information that
may be required when filing returns – salary income documents, securities interest income certificates, rental agreements, municipal tax receipts, mortgage loan interest certificates, capital asset purchase and sale agreements and receipts, dividend warrants, tax withholding certificates, etc.
To get tax relief, proof of investment will also be required. Such as life insurance premium receipt, provident fund contribution certificate, savings certificate, shares, Deposit Pension Scheme (DPS), welfare fund or Zakat fund contribution certificate, etc.
How to file returns online
All taxpayers will file their income tax returns for the fiscal year 2025-26 on the NBR website— https://www.etaxnbr.gov.bd . To file returns online, you will need to register first. For this, you will need to use your TIN number and biometric mobile number. Once you submit your return, you will automatically receive a receipt.
Taxpayers can pay taxes
from home through bank transfer, debit or credit card, bKash, Rocket, Nagad and other mobile financial services.
