The Election Commission (EC) has decided to review the Shapla symbol again. They will soon settle the issue of the symbol chosen by the National Citizens Party (NCP) after reviewing the laws and regulations.
The Election Commission had given the NCP until Sunday (October 19) to choose an alternative to the Shapla symbol. On the last day, a delegation from the party again applied to the EC, seeking the Shapla symbol.
In light of this petition, the Election Commission has decided to review the NCP’s preferred symbol, Shapla. The Election Commission announced this information on Monday (October 20).
Akhtar Ahmed, senior secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, said, “We asked the NCP to choose from 50 symbols and inform us. The time was given until October 19. On the last day, a delegation from the party came and again applied for the Shapla symbol.”
He said that in view of the party’s re-application, the matter will be taken up again with the commission. The commission will decide which symbol will be given to them.
A delegation of the NCP met Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Sunday morning. Upon arriving at the commission, the NCP leaders said that they will not accept any imposed symbol. The party has responded to the EC’s letter, highlighting its firm stance on the Shapla symbol.
