The deep depression over the southeast and southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclone ‘Mantha’. It is currently over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal (11.7° North Latitude and 85.5° East Longitude).

This information was given in special notification number 5 signed by meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department on Monday (October 27) morning.

It said that at 3 am today (October 27, 2025), it was located 1360 km southwest of Chittagong Seaport, 1300 km southwest of Cox’s Bazar Seaport, 1280 km southwest of Mongla Seaport, and 1260 km southwest of Payra Seaport.

The special bulletin further said that it is likely to move further west-northwestwards and intensify. It is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast of India by the evening/night of October 28.

The maximum sustained wind speed within 54 km of the cyclone centre is 62 kmph, increasing to 88 kmph in gusts or squalls. The sea is very rough in the area near the cyclone centre.

The seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to lower the distant warning signal number 1 and instead display the distant warning signal number 2.

All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal have been asked to remain close to the coast and exercise caution until further notice. They have also been asked not to venture into the deep sea.
