The decision to declare Cox’s Bazar Airport as an international airport is being postponed. A notification in this regard is likely to be issued next Sunday (October 26). The government had declared the airport ‘international’ on October 12.
A responsible source at the International Aviation Committee of Cox’s Bazar Airport confirmed the matter to Reporter.
However, details about why such a decision is being taken are not known. Biman Bangladesh Airlines was supposed to start international flights at this airport through its Kolkata-Cox’s Bazar flight.
Earlier, letters were sent to domestic and foreign airlines to operate international flights through Cox’s Bazar Airport from October 2 this year. On October 12, the CA-1 branch of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism issued a notification declaring the airport as an ‘international airport’.
