The July National Charter was signed by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and leaders of the country’s major political parties. They signed the historic charter around 5 pm.
Earlier, at 4:30 pm, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus joined the signing ceremony of the ‘July National Charter 2025’ at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. The signing ceremony began at 4:37 pm with the national anthem. Members of the Advisory Council are present. Top leaders of various political parties and members of the National Consensus Commission have joined.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and party standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed attended the ceremony. Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Mass Solidarity Movement Chief Coordinator Jonayed Saki, People’s Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur and other party leaders also attended.
Education Advisor CR Abrar, Food Advisor Ali Imam Majumder, Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Liberation War Affairs Advisor Faruk-e-Azam, Energy Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor Faiz Ahmed Tayyab arrived at the venue around 4 pm.
After the interim government took office in August last year, it took initiatives to reform various sectors of the state. The National Consensus Commission held several rounds of discussions with the parties on the reform proposals of the six reform commissions formed in the first phase. During these discussions held from February to July, consensus was reached on 84 reform proposals. The Consensus Commission then prepared the draft of the July Charter by incorporating these 84 proposals. The draft was discussed again. The opinions of experts were also taken.
The National Consensus Commission finalized the written version of the July National Charter after reviewing the opinions of all parties. The final copy of the charter was given to all political parties on Tuesday.
Political parties are signing the historic July National Charter today, October 17. The event has been organized at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.
Meanwhile, a tense situation has been created around the Parliament building since morning surrounding the event. The July Warriors have been stationed at the venue since morning, demanding three points, including state recognition of the students and public injured in the July uprising and recognition of those injured in the July uprising as heroes.
The National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz called on the protesters to leave, stating that they would be recognized in the July Charter, but they continued their position. Later, when law enforcement members removed them from the Parliament building area, a chase and counter-chase ensued. Meanwhile, the Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz said that clause 5 of the July Charter pledge has been amended in accordance with the demands of the July fighters.
