Air ambulance crashes after fighter jet in India, killing all on board

India’s indigenously developed fighter jet Tejas often crashes. Now, one of the country’s air ambulances has also crashed in the same manner.

The air ambulance carrying seven people crashed in Chatra district of Jharkhand, India, killing all seven people on board, including the pilot.

The aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave this information in a statement on Monday (February 23), NDTV reported.

Quoting the DGCA, Indian news outlet NDTV reported that a Beechcraft C90 aircraft operated by Redbird Airways Private Limited took off from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, for Delhi at 7:11 pm on Monday.

Radar and communication with the plane were lost about 23 minutes after takeoff.

The statement said that after establishing contact with air traffic control in Kolkata, the aircraft lost radar and communication about 100 nautical miles southeast of Varanasi at 7:34 pm Indian time.

There were seven people on board the plane, including two pilots, a patient, two caregivers, a doctor and a paramedic. The tail number of the crashed plane was VT-AJV.

The DGCA also said that the district administration’s search and rescue team has reached the spot. A team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is being sent to investigate the cause of the accident. Detailed information will be provided once the investigation is completed.

It is learned that a 41-year-old man suffered 63 percent burns in a serious accident and was being treated in the ICU.

He was taken in this air ambulance because he was being transferred to Delhi for better treatment.
