Army Chief Waqar-uz-Zaman said the army will return to barracks after the newly elected government is sworn in. However, he clarified that a portion of the army will remain deployed in the field in a supporting role until the police fully take control of the law and order situation.
He made these remarks while addressing members of all ranks of the army at the ‘CAS Darbar’ organized on Sunday (February 15) at 11 am. Along with members serving in the country, members assigned to UN peacekeeping missions also participated virtually in the event.
The army chief said the army has been performing its duties with full respect for the constitution and the civilian administration.
At one point in his speech, he quoted a verse from the Holy Quran and said, ‘Surely Allah rewards the patient.’ He called on the army members to maintain patience, restraint and professionalism.
Praising the professionalism, discipline and responsibility of the army members while performing their election duties, the army chief said, the efficiency with which the army has performed its duties in difficult and sensitive times has further strengthened the confidence of the people of the country.
