
BNP Chairman and the party’s candidate for Bogra-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies, Tarique Rahman, went to the port city of Chittagong to campaign for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections.
The Bangladesh Biman flight carrying him landed at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport at around 7:15 pm on Saturday (January 24).
Tarique Rahman was welcomed at the airport by BNP standing committee members Salahuddin Ahmed, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and other top leaders of Chittagong.
Earlier, Tarique Rahman left for Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from his residence number 196 in Gulshan at around 5:49 pm. He arrived in Chittagong by plane at around 7:15 pm.
Party sources said Tarique Rahman has left for Chittagong by Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight. He will participate in the party’s election campaign there on Sunday (January 25).
Tarique Rahman will address the gathering as the chief guest on Sunday. His visit to Chittagong after more than two decades has generated great enthusiasm among leaders and activists in the city and surrounding districts.
According to the announced itinerary, the BNP chairman will leave Chittagong in the afternoon after addressing a public meeting at the Polo Ground on Sunday at 11:30 am. He will then attend public meetings at the Pilot School Ground in Feni at 4 pm, the Chauddagram High School Ground in Comilla at 5:30 pm, and the Digbaji Ground in Suyagazi at 7 pm.
Tarique Rahman will address another rally at the Central Eidgah Ground in Daudkandi at 7:30 pm on the same day. On his way back to Dhaka, he will participate in the last public rally at Kanchpur Balur Ground in Narayanganj at 11:30 pm and return to his residence in Gulshan late at night.
Tarique Rahman last visited Chittagong in 2005. At that time, he was the party’s senior joint secretary general. After that visit, he stayed in London for a long time. He returned to the country on December 25 after 17 years.
