BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the life of national leader Khaleda Zia, who is suffering from the effects of continuous torture, is now in extreme crisis. He made this comment in a post on his Facebook ID on Friday (December 5).
Tarique Rahman wrote in a Facebook post, "An unforgettable day, December 6. On this day in 1990, the bloody and slippery path of dictatorship ended. Ershad, on March 24, 1982, broke his professional loyalty and oath and ousted the elected President Justice Abdus Sattar at gunpoint and imposed an unconstitutional rule. The constitutional politics that was the guarantee of multi-party democracy, which was initiated by the great proclaimer of independence, martyr President Ziaur Rahman. Dictator Hossain Mohammad Ershad turned democratic institutions into ruins.
He wrote, for nine long years, the national leader Begum Khaleda Zia fought with strong conviction to bring back democracy and gained fame as an uncompromising leader. She built a formidable mass movement. In continuation of this, on December 6, 1990, with the combined strength of students and the public, democracy was liberated by defeating the dictatorship." In the spirit of that achieved democracy, the students and the masses once again defeated a violent fascist force on August 5, 2024. Historically, the fascist Awami League was a terrible enemy of democracy. After the end of the tyranny of fascist Sheikh Hasina, we must continue our relentless struggle to fully revive democracy and establish democratic values in the state and society.

The life of the national leader, who is sick due to the constant torture, is now in extreme crisis. I pray to Allah for her speedy recovery. In addition, millions of leaders and activists of the country's nationalist forces were subjected to unlimited torture and torture. The entire country was blockaded.
On this day, I pay my deepest respect to the memory of the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the bloody anti-dictatorship movement from 1982 to 1990 and pray for the forgiveness of their souls. On this memorable day of the restoration of democracy, I extend my greetings and congratulations to the countrymen who participated in the anti-dictatorship movement and safeguarded democracy.
I call on the democratic forces to always remain united so that the defeated anti-democratic forces do not rise again. Allah Hafez, Long live Bangladesh.
