South Africa equalised in the second match of the series by chasing a mammoth target of 359 runs set by hosts India. In response to centuries from Kohli and Ruturaj, Markram's century and Mathews and Brewis' fifties ensured a four-wicket win for the Proteas thanks to Corbin Boss' batting prowess.
South Africa won the toss and elected to field first at the Shaheed Bir Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday (December 3).
Batting first, Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaekwad struggled at first but quickly brought the situation under control. Virat's second consecutive century came on the day, while Gaekwad scored his first century of his career. Their record partnership of 195 runs against South Africa helped India post 358 for 5.
In reply, despite losing the wicket of Quinton de Kock, South Africa kept the run-scoring momentum going through Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma. Bavuma returned for 46 runs. Markram returned for 110 runs after scoring a century.
Then Matthew and Brevis took over. Both of them hit fifties. And in the end, Corbin Boss returned with Keshav Maharaj to win the match.
The two teams will face each other in the third and final ODI to decide the series in Visakhapatnam next Saturday.
