Police have recovered the body of a student with his throat slit from a madrasa in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali. The body was recovered on Monday morning. Police have arrested a classmate of the deceased madrasa student in the incident.
The deceased student has been identified as Nazim Uddin (13). He is the son of Mohammad Obaid Ullah of Jahanabad village in Chashirhat union of Sonaimuri upazila. He was a student of the Hifz department of Batra Al Madrasatul Islamia Makhsudul Ulum Madrasa in Ward No. 6 of Sonaimuri Municipality.
The student arrested in the murder case is 16 years old. The teenager is also a student of the Hifz department of the madrasa. A knife has been recovered from him. Police believe the knife was used in the murder.
Police said that Nazim Uddin was studying in the Hifz department at the madrasa. On Sunday night, like every other day, he was sleeping in a room with other students in the madrasa. There are 14 students in that room. Around 3 am, some students woke up after hearing someone moaning. Later, they turned on the light in the room and saw Nazim's body lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit. The madrasa teachers were informed about the matter. The police recovered the body in the morning after receiving the information.
Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Morshed Alam told Prothom Alo that suspicion arose after seeing a handprint next to the bloody body. At that time, one of the students in the room was seen shaking and was detained on suspicion and interrogated, and he confessed to the murder.
The OC said that Nazim Uddin had a fight with the detained student a couple of weeks ago over wearing a hat. The madrasa teachers settled the matter. Even then, the detained teenager harbored anger in his heart. Due to this, he bought a knife for 300 taka from the local market and hid it. As per the pre-plan, he slit Nazim's throat while he was sleeping last night. After the murder, he hid the knife and slept in his room.
Stating that police's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel are at the scene, the OC said the body will be sent to the morgue for autopsy. Further legal action will be taken in light of the complaint filed by the deceased student's family.
