The case related to the Peelkhana attack on February 25, 2009, is still in the judicial process. The families of the accused and the slain army officers have had to face a test of patience through a long trial and appeal.
The prosecution said that in the statements of witnesses in this explosive case, the names of several then ministers and Awami League leaders, including Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Taposh, Mirza Azam, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, have come up for involvement in the BDR killings.
For this reason, a case will be filed against them, said Borhan Uddin, the chief prosecutor of the explosives case. There are about 850 accused in the Explosives Act case.
Out of 1,200 witnesses in the case, 300 have testified. Among these, the statements of important witnesses have revealed the involvement of several people, including Sheikh Hasina.
The explosive case of the BDR killings has not yet been resolved. It is still in the testimony stage. After August 5, several hundred accused in this case have been granted bail.
It is worth noting that Peelkhana was bloodied on February 25, 2009. No one could have ever imagined that 57 army officers would have to give their lives in a secure place like Peelkhana.
The trial court, on November 5, 2013, sentenced 152 people to death, 160 to life imprisonment, and 256 to various terms of imprisonment in this case. The High Court upheld the death sentences of 139 accused. In addition, 185 people were sentenced to life imprisonment and 228 to various terms of imprisonment. 283 people were acquitted.
