The time for submitting income tax returns online has been extended by one month. Taxpayers can submit their returns till December 31. According to the rules, the last day for filing returns is November 30. It is learnt that the time has been extended in view of the applications of businessmen and taxpayers.
This information was revealed in a notification on Sunday (November 23).
In this regard, an NBR official told Dhaka Post on condition of anonymity, "According to the Income Tax Act, 2023, the last day for filing income tax returns for all categories of taxpayers except companies for the 2025-26 tax year has been requested by taxpayers of various professions to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns to November 30. Considering their request, the deadline for filing income tax returns has been extended by one month."
According to NBR sources, more than one million taxpayers have already filed income tax returns online for the 2025-26 tax year this year. On August 4, 2025, Financial Advisor Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed officially inaugurated the online e-return filing process through the National Board of Revenue website www.etaxnbr.gov.bd.
This year, the NBR, through a special order, has made it mandatory for all individual taxpayers to file their income tax returns online, except for senior taxpayers aged 65 years and above, physically disabled or with special needs, Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, legal representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh. However, those who are exempted from this obligation can also file their e-returns online if they wish.
NBR said that Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad can also apply to ereturn@etaxnbr.gov.bd by mentioning their passport number, national identity card number and email address, and an OTP and registration link are being sent to their email. Through this, they can easily file their returns online. Taxpayers do not have to upload any documents in the e-return system. By providing only information on income, expenses, assets and liabilities, it is possible to print an Acknowledgement Slip and income tax certificate immediately. As a result, e-return is becoming increasingly popular among taxpayers residing in the country and abroad. To quickly resolve any issues related to e-return, the NBR has launched a call center (09643 71 71 71), where taxpayers can get immediate telephonic assistance.
In addition, direct services are also available from the e-Tax Service option of the website www.etaxnbr.gov.bd and the e-Return Help Desks established in every tax region of the country.
