The National Citizens Party (NCP) will accept the 'Shapla Kali' symbol to get registered as a political party, said the party's joint member secretary, Zahirul Haque Musa.
NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Joint Member Secretary Zahirul Islam Musa, and Joint Convener Khaled Saifullah entered the CEC's office at 3 pm on Sunday (November 2) to meet him. Zahirul Haque Musa told reporters after the meeting.
He said that last Thursday, the Election Commission published a gazette adding several symbols including the Shapla Kali. In continuation of that, the NCP has submitted an application today by choosing a symbol from the EC's list. Among them, the first is the Shapla, the second is the white Shapla and the third is the Shapla Kali. In that case, if the Shapla Kali is received, the NCP will accept it, he said.
Demand for public notice for symbol
NCP leader Zahirul Islam Musa mentioned about choosing 'Shapla, white Shapla and Shapla Kali' as their symbol and said, "Shapla, white Shapla and Shapla Kali are our choices now. We have applied for this. NCP can issue a public notice considering Shapla Kali as its symbol."
Sources said that the meeting is being held with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) regarding the inclusion of 'Shapla' in the list of election symbols. Despite repeated demands, the EC has already decided not to allocate the Shapla symbol to any party. The EC informed that the 'Shapla' symbol is not being allocated to the NCP as it is not in the EC's election rules.
It is worth noting that a notification in this regard signed by Election Commission Secretary Akhtar Ahmed was published on Thursday. In it, a list of symbols for registered political parties and independent candidates has been published. Shapla Kali has been added to it. However, the NCP has been demanding Shapla as the party symbol for a long time.
The Election Commission has decided to register two parties ahead of the 13th parliamentary elections. Among them is the NCP, which is in the process of issuing a notification to find out if there are any objections to the party.
