A special drive in the Geneva Camp area of Mohammadpur in the capital led to the seizure of a large quantity of heroin, according to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Law enforcement officials said the estimated street value of the recovered drugs is around Tk 2 million.
Police sources said the expedition was carried out at approximately 4:20 pm on Friday in front of Jubayer’s grocery shop on the western side of Polu Kasai’s lane in the Geneva Camp area under Mohammadpur Police Station. Sensing the presence of police, the accused — Md Arif, also known as Chapa Arif (32) — fled the scene, leaving behind a bag.
Upon searching the spot, police recovered a white shopping bag containing two large plastic packets. Inside those were 100 smaller packets, from which a total of 10,000 purias (small packets) of heroin were seized. The total weight of the recovered heroin is approximately 1,500 grams, police said.
The operation was led by Inspector (Investigation) Atikur Rahman of the Mohammadpur Police Outpost under DMP. Sub-Inspector (Investigation) Md Jasim Uddin has filed a case under the Narcotics Control Act.
According to police, preliminary investigation suggests that Arif, alias Chapa Arif, is one of the top drug traders in the Geneva Camp area. Efforts are ongoing to arrest him.
Authorities said a case has been filed under the relevant sections of the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, and strict legal action will be taken against those involved in drug trafficking.
