The High Court (HC) has dismissed a writ petition seeking a stay on all activities of the upcoming thirteenth parliamentary elections.
The HC bench of Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi passed the order on Monday.
Earlier on Wednesday (December 3), Secretary General of Bangladesh Congress Advocate Yarul Islam filed the writ petition.
The writ petition sought a rule to explain why it would not be illegal to appoint the deputy commissioner and upazila nirbahi officer as returning officers and assistant returning officers instead of the district and upazila election officers.
Besides, the writ said that all activities of the upcoming parliamentary elections should be suspended until the hearing of the rule. The chief election commissioner and others concerned were made respondents in the writ.
