As part of the precautionary measures in the wake of the earthquake, drilling activities in all gas wells in Sylhet, Chittagong and Narsingdi areas have been ordered to be suspended for 48 hours. This was announced in a directive sent by the Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) today (Sunday, November 23).
Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production (Bapex) said that four earthquakes in two days have proven that the subsurface plate above Narsingdi district is very unstable. At this time, even a slight tremor in the ground can make the ground in that area more unstable.
As a result, it is advised to temporarily suspend any natural gas well drilling work being carried out by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation in any district of Sylhet, Mymensingh, and Chittagong divisions for 48 to 72 hours.
At the same time, it has been recommended to completely ban all types of drilling work in Narsingdi district for 48 to 72 hours.
