The Chittagong Port Protection Council has suspended the ongoing strike.
The strike was suspended in a notice issued at 12:30 am on Sunday (February 8).
The notice signed by two coordinators of the Port Protection Sangram Parishad, Md. Humayun Kabir and Ibrahim Khokon, said that the strike program has been postponed from 8 am on Monday (February 9) to February 15 in the interest of the national parliamentary elections and the unloading of goods during the holy month of Ramadan.
However, if five issues, including the arrest of port employees, harassing transfers, and temporary suspension, are not resolved, the program will be announced again on February 16.
Incidentally, workers and employees have been on strike for six consecutive days since January 31, demanding four points, including the cancellation of the process of leasing the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chittagong Port to foreign operator DP World. After that, the program was suspended on Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, after taking action against 15 workers, the protesters returned to their program. After a two-day break, the Port Protection Movement Council called for a continuous strike again from Sunday (February 8). The activities of the outer anchorage were also closed that day. As a result, the entire port came to a standstill.
