The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced the names of potential candidates for 237 seats in the 13th parliamentary election. Out of these, party chairperson Khaleda Zia is contesting in three seats. She has been nominated in Dinajpur-3, Bogra-7 and Feni-1.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the names of the potential candidates at a press conference at the chairperson's office in Gulshan on Monday afternoon.
Party acting chairman Tarique Rahman has been nominated for Bogra-6 constituency and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir for Thakurgaon-1 constituency. 10 women, including Khaleda Zia, have been nominated by BNP. 63 seats are vacant. It has been indicated that these seats will be left for partners. Multiple reliable sources in the party have given this information.
Sources said that among the 12 leaders who received the 'green signal' are: Jatiya Party (Jafar) Chairman Mustafa Jamal Haider in Pirojpur-1 constituency, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna in Bogra-2 constituency, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) Chairman Andalib Rahman Partha in Dhaka-17 constituency, Bangladesh LDP Chairman Shahadat Hossain Selim in Lakshmipur-1 constituency and Bangladesh Jatiya Dal Chairman Syed Ehsanul Huda in Kishoreganj-5 constituency.
Besides, NDM Chairman Bobby Hajjaj is contesting in Dhaka-13 constituency, Mass Solidarity Movement Chief Coordinator Jonayed Saki is contesting in Brahmanbaria-6 constituency, LDP Chairman Col. (retd) Oli Ahmed's son Professor Omar Faruk is contesting in Chittagong-14 constituency, the party's Secretary General Dr. Redwan Ahmed is contesting in Comilla-7 constituency, Nationalist Like-Minded Alliance Coordinator and NPP Chairman Dr. Fariduzzaman Farhad is contesting in Narail-2 constituency, People's Rights Council President Nurul Haque Nur is contesting in Patuakhali-3 constituency, and the party's General Secretary Rashed Khan is contesting in Jhenaidah-2 constituency.
