The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has severed its 15-year relationship with curator Gamini de Silva. The board has cancelled his contract. He will no longer be in charge from today. As per the rules, the BCB has to pay him two months' salary due to the cancellation of his contract.
The BCB recently renewed the one-year contract of Sri Lankan curator Gamini de Silva. In the meantime, the board signed a contract with Tommy Hemming. After that, Gamini was sent to Rajshahi. He will return to Dhaka and collect his dues from the BCB and leave.
The BCB said, "The contract with Gamini stated that if we do not want to keep him in the final year, we will have to pay him two months' salary. We have decided to end the relationship by explaining to him what he deserves."
Gamini was appointed as the BCB's chief curator in 2010. He spent most of his time working on the wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. He is the only curator in the history of BCB to have worked on the wickets of one ground for a long time.
He has been criticized in recent years for not scoring well on the slow and low Mirpur wicket. The BCB had appointed Tommy Hemming in the middle to improve the wicket. But Gamini did not provide him with proper support and the relationship deteriorated, so Hemming left the job.
Hemming has been newly appointed by the BCB. It is learnt that the son of Sri Lankan curator Gamini de Silva lives in Spain. As his duties with the BCB have ended, he will go to Spain to spend his vacation with his son.
